So I have about 9 lbs of mesquite honey left over from another project and would like to try my hand at a broggot since I've yet to do one. I have ken's book and just got done reviewing a lot of the info in there, and both the Hefty Braggot and the Don't Cry For Me Spargentina are options for me right. Although I'm sure they are both solid recipes, I'm wondering if anyone has an experience with these recipes or a recipe of their own that they wouldn't mind sharing. Braggot seems to be a really wide category and it almost seems like anything goes, so I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it.

I made one of them, I think it was the Spargentina one. Did the recipe exactly, and to this day it's one of the best meads I've ever made.

I made the Hefty Braggot back just before Christmas. I like it well enough. It was still pretty hot and very hoppy for my taste (I'm not a beer guy). That said I think it has great potential. I intend to leave it alone until next fall at the earliest and see where it goes.

I made the hefty braggot a couple years or so ago. It turned out too sweet for my liking. If you're doing the AG approach, really keep an eye on the mash temperatures and go for the maximum fermentables. Just my opinion but I'd say you could knock off a pound of honey from the recipe, too.
