Ok, I got permission from my LHBS to post this. He's putting together a pallet order to accompany another truck shipment and is passing along some incredible bulk grain purchases. A buddy and I are splitting 2 bags of grain (2 Row and Wheat Malt) and I'm picking up a bag of Pils. I worked out my share to be 111 pounds at Seventy Three Cents a pound! It'll pretty much keep me in base grains for a while. But... I wanted to pass this along to you guys. (Baddog... I'm still looking at you!)It sounds like he is going to be doing a bulk hops buy at some point too... he said he has the ability to ship nationwide when he does that one. I'm trying to get him to join the Blue Board... when he metioned the BrewBoard, I gave him the 15 second rundown on why he shouldn't... apart from the fact that Jess would see him purely as competition...At any rate, here is the link for the deal. I'm not sure how many we have in the Bay Area, but I'm pretty sure that you will find this to be a rockin good deal.

Call him and let him know what you want. He'll take 50% deposit. He'll place the order on the 28th and should have it on the 2nd. Just drive your butt to Livermore to picke it up! He's a really nice guy with a clean and bright shop. Do let him know that I refered you. I don't think you'll get anything special... hell, I don't think I'll necesarily get anything special... but he knows I was posting the info here. It's worth it to him to know where the traffic is coming from... and maybe it could benefit us in the long run too.

You're lucky. I recall someone in CA trying to do a bulk order with North Country ( I think) and they said that in no way shape or form would they sell to homebrewers. I have no idea why, though.

That was me, and I got my LHBS to do it though. Not as good of prices, but still I was glad to be able to get in bulk and help him out a little too.

I have participated in 3 in the last year and a half and I have also bought hops straight from NC as well. Let me know if I am missing something though. Anyone know of a good deal on Citra Hops in bulk?? Cheers guys!!

It's nice to see some LHBS owners waking up to the fact that they're losing out on the hardcore homebrewer business by trying to charge $1.25 a pound for base malt when there are outlets who will sell the same for $0.50/lb. I've organized group buys from North Country the last two years for some local blueboarders, but I would gladly pay a 10-20% premium to have a LHBS organize it. 100% premium? Uhhhh...no.

They told me they wouldn't sell to me. I called and that's the answer I got.

Thats interesting since the only stipulation I have heard them say is that you need to have a commerical dock for them to deliver to otherwise it was fine. Hope it works out for you guys this time though which I am sure it will too. Cheers

Not all of the Country Malt Group regional offices will sell to homebrewers. The one that covers California and the western 1/3rd of the country doesn't. At least, that's what I read at some point. I would just make up a brewery name, or say you're trying to start a brewery. I'm sure there are ways around it.

I understand and was not aware of that either. Happy to know the the east coast NY office does not do that then. I guess we are both in luck you more than me since you just got more grain recently. Thanks for the info!!
