Yeah, I know, wrong forum...  My daughter and BIL are getting into this.  Any suggestions for Christmas gifts.  I ordered Schramm's book and pieced together a carboy cap, racking cane, filter bottling setup.  Any other ideas.  I'm  mead challenged..........

Other than what you've already done, 1 gallon of good quality honey would be nice, though $.  Also, point them to the WM&C faqs on this board.  It's as good a collection of wisdom/experience as exists anywhere I've looked.

Get them some Go-Ferm, Fermaid-K and DAP to get them started.

They have Better Bottle and another 1 gallon batch going.  Funny, they found some of Drew's stuff in the deep, dark corner of the basement.  I need to  spend some time there.  Lots of treasure.

Thanks for the tips.  I've mentioned the forum sans PH before.  Hell, they know me............ but not that there is a subforum.  Thanks

Uh oh.  20# of honey, a better bottle, nutrient and a smack pack of 4632 showed up under my tree.  I'm making my way through the FAQs here and a primer on gotmead.  Clover so I'm thinking metheglin at this point.  Feel free to point and laugh while you point me in the right direction........

Add cinnamon and vanilla to that clover and you'll be golden. 71B yeast-throw that smack pack away.

Is the Wyeast a problem? Picking up the Lalvin is no problem.

I still haven't started this. 1 or 2 packs of the 71B for 5 gallons?

I guess around 1.139 for 5 gallons

Always use two packets in mead.

I thought so since the gravity will be so high.  Finally learned to never hesitate to ask questions..

And another.  My son in law is really getting into this.  Any suggestions as to where to buy honey?  Of course he has the Costco clover figured out.  I would guess the farmer's markets around here are the same.  He asked, so I said I would check.

Farmer's markets are usually way too expensive. Try the HoneyLocator. I've had a lot of good luck there.

Thanks!
